Croatian Contemporary Architecture

I'll try to show you some emerging architecture in Croatia.

The 3LHD Studio (old site) has won many international awards for the Memorial Pedestrian Bridge in Rijeka (more pics).

Recently they've been working on the Croatian Pavilion at Expo 2005 in Aichi. The theme was "a drop of water: a grain of salt", trying to represent our country, in which seems they succeded.

Two young architects, Iva Letilovic and Morana Vlahovic, did a great job in a public housing building in Krapinske Toplice.

Randic – Turato are working very much in the area of Rijeka. This is a project for the Technical Faculty, an annex to an old existing building.

There are more interesting projects from those guys, like the School in the old city center of Krk island (even if I could discuss about it's dimension and facade compared to the big city walls).

Njiric+Njiric was published in El Croquis 114 for their work in the Croatia, Slovenia and Austria area. Though it might be the most successful publication of this group of people is the one I like less.

This is just some of the work going on, maybe the most famous. The positive fact is that slowly something is moving on, even in this small country, though there are very strict regulating laws in most of croatian regions.
So let's hear your opinion about those works! And if you get interested I might find some more good examples in an ocean of terrible stuff.

Market Square in Brussels

This is a project for the Schindler Award Competition 2003/2004. It's a group work of 7 people, including me, guided by a teacher.
The brief asked to design a market square, shops, polifunctional center and housing units, with a particular look on handicap people, in a multi cultural quarter of Brussels.
